Green Events

The City of Tacoma’s Environmental Services Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents while protecting our environment. To support community-driven initiatives that promote sustainability and environmental stewardship, the department oversees two grant programs and an event support program. These programs offer funding for innovative projects and provide resources to help make Tacoma a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city.

Restroom Facilities

Providing adequate restroom facilities is a critical part of planning any special event. Restrooms must meet the needs of attendees, comply with ADA requirements, and align with local regulations to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.

Restroom Requirements

    • For events lasting multiple days or those with large attendance, organizers must arrange for restrooms to be serviced regularly to ensure cleanliness and functionality.

    • Provide handwashing stations with soap, water, and paper towels near portable restrooms.

    • At least one handwashing station is recommended for every five portable restrooms.

Coordination with Vendors

    • Work with a licensed restroom vendor to ensure all facilities meet regulatory and ADA standards.

    • Include a map with restroom locations in the application. The map should indicate the number and type (standard or ADA-compliant) of units provided.

Special Considerations

    • If existing restrooms are available at the event site, confirm with the property owner or the City whether these facilities can accommodate expected attendance.

    • Consider eco-friendly restroom options, such as compostable or solar-powered units, to align with Tacoma’s sustainability goals.
