Drone operators must establish emergency protocols for equipment malfunctions or other unexpected incidents.
Drones must be immediately grounded if deemed unsafe by event staff or city officials.
Non-Compliance Penalties
Unauthorized use of drones or filming without a permit may result in fines, permit revocation, or other enforcement actions

All drone operations must comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, including Part 107 rules for commercial drone pilots.
Drone operators must hold a Remote Pilot Certificate issued by the FAA (FAA, n.d.).

Drones flown during special events must adhere to the following:
Avoid flying over crowds, unless a safety plan is approved.
Maintain a safe distance from public infrastructure, such as power lines or bridges.
Operate only within designated areas approved by Tacoma Venues & Events.

Submit a Drone Permit Application if your event involves drone use. The application must include:
A flight plan detailing intended operations and locations.
Proof of FAA certification and insurance coverage.

Organizers are responsible for addressing privacy concerns and ensuring that drones do not create undue noise disturbances for nearby residents

A film permit is required for any filming activities on public property, including streets, parks, and other city-owned spaces.
This applies to commercial productions, independent films, student projects, and promotional content.

Submit the Film Permit Application at least 10-15 business days before filming begins.
Include details such as:
Filming dates and times
Locations and street or sidewalk closures
Equipment and crew size
Parking and traffic control needs (Tacoma Municipal Code, Title 11.15.140)

Fees for film permits are based on the scope of production and the use of city resources.
$100.00 commercial
$50.00 non-profit, student or B-roll only
Productions must provide a certificate of insurance naming the City of Tacoma as an additional insured

Productions involving stunts, pyrotechnics, or large-scale equipment must receive additional approval from the Tacoma Fire Department.
